The Padel Boom!

Padel tennis is poised to become the next big thing in the UK’s sport scene. Combining elements of tennis and squash, this fast-paced and accessible sport is rapidly gaining popularity across the country.

At Padel Pass, we believe the UK is set to experience a Padel boom for the following reasons.

Increasing Popularity and Quick Learning Curve

One of the main drivers of Padel’s growing popularity is its low barrier to entry, making it easy to pick up and play! Padel is easy to learn, making it appealing to people of all ages and skill levels. By design, the sport is also incredibly social. Being played in doubles, Padel is often enjoyed with friends and family, encourages community participation and also fosters new friendships.

Health and Social Benefits

As mentioned in one of our previous posts (Why Play Padel) Padel offers a host of health benefits, from strengthening the upper and lower body, to improved cardiovascular health, agility and coordination. It truly provides a full-body workout that boosts mental well-being by reducing stress and anxiety. The social aspect of the game further adds to its appeal, as it provides a fun way to stay active and connect with other like-minded individuals.

Support from Sporting Organisations

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), were announced as the National Governing Body for Padel tennis in May 2019 with the aim of helping grow the sport (see here for more details). Since taking over, the LTA has recognised the potential of Padel and is actively promoting the sport. Their efforts to build more courts and organise events have significantly contributed to the growth of the sport. Indeed, by using the LTA Quick Access Loan Scheme, tennis clubs have been able to successfully grow and improve their venue by integrating Padel into their membership offerings (read more about How Britain is Embracing One of the World’s Fastest Growing Sports here). With the backing from such a reputable organisation, Padel tennis is steadily gaining legitimacy and attracting a broader audience.

Celebrity Endorsements and Media Coverage

Furthermore, high-profile endorsements from the likes of Andy Murray, Ellen White and Jill Scott have also fuelled interest in Padel. Lionesses Ellen White and Jill Scott have kick-started a celebrity Padel challenge series – Padel People, that introduces the audience to this captivating sport through a series of challenges and entertaining Padel footage (see here – Lioness Legends Jill Scott and Ellen White Take on Padel! ). As more people see their favourite celebrities and influencers enjoying Padel, they will be inspired to try it themselves!
